Métisse insulation

The origin of Métisse insulation

Vernooij Textile Recyclers and Le Relais started in 2005 with the development of an insulation material from old colthes. In 2007 they introduced Métisse insulation at the French market. Three years later, Métisse is introduced by VRK Insulation in the Netherlands and Belgium. VRK is created by
a collaboration between Vernooij Textile recyclers (clothing sorting company), the French Le Relais (clothing collection and sorting) and foundation KICI (clothing collection). In January 2015, after a merger with Humana, KICI was renamed Sympany, a new leading clothing collection organization.
In the meantime, VRK Insulation sells Métisse in many European countries. Le Relais takes care of  the production of Métisse and built a completely new factory in 2012.

Insulate with clothes for a sustainable future

Keep yourself warm with cotton trousers and wool sweaters. The idea is not even very revolutionary, yet it has never been practiced in this way.

Over the past decade, the quality of the textile has continued to decline. These "disposable" clothes sold at a low price can be found quickly in the clothing containers. However, it is often impossible to find a second owner for this. Faced with this economic and environmental problem, Le Relais has begun looking for an alternative to clothing that would otherwise be burned. Then Métisse appeared.

De vele voordelen van Métisse isolatie

Métisse vs. traditional insulation materials (for example: rockwool):

  • Apply without irritation, no mouth cap needed.

  • Extremely strong material and homogeneous composition, a material of very constant thickness. Effects: better insulation performance and thus cost saving.

  • Flexible, yet durable and very strong

  • Vapor-regulating because of the natural fibers. It regulates the relative humidity in your home.

  • Cool in the summer by high heat storage. It takes 6 to 8 hours for the heat to penetrate.

Métisse vs. natural insulation materials (for example: flax wool):

  • Very easy to cut.

  • Almost no dust is released.

  • Métisse is the only insulation material that scores on all three levels of durability: Due to 90% recycled clothing, it is very good for the environment (Planet), clothing collection and sorting is done by people with a disadvantage in the labor market (People), and by isolating the energy bill goes down (Profit) and is the circle around!

  • Very resilient. Returns to its original thickness after indentation. Consequence is a very constant and high insulation value.

General benefits Métisse

  • The composition and structure of Métisse (long cotton fibers) guarantee excellent acoustic performance. Reports are available on request.

  • A very limited ecological footprint: No insulation material contains such a large proportion of recycled fibers as Métisse. In addition, Métisse is subject to a LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) by the renowned Gaz de France, after which the FDES (Fiche de Déclaration Environnementales et Sanitaires) has been received. Métisse also achieved the Dubo Keur.
